Dental Assistant

Begin your education as a Dental Assistant where you will work closely with, and under the supervision of dentists and dental specialists. You will work in a clean environment usually near the dental chair to assist as needed. Enjoy a 35-40 hour workweek or you may choose to work part-time with a variable schedule.

Dental Assistants perform a variety of duties in the dental office.

Clinical Skills Administrative Skills

Prepare and lay out instruments and materials required for each patient

Schedule and confirm appointments

Instruct patients on post-operative and general oral health care

Receive patients

Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment

Obtain patient dental records

Prepare patients for treatment

Dental language skills

Provide chairside assistance to the dentist

Keep treatment records

Prepare materials for impressions

Order dental supplies and materials

Take and process dental X-rays

Where do they work?

Dentists and Dental Specialists are expected to hire more assistants to perform routine dental tasks so that their time is used for more complex procedures. This means that job prospects for dental assistants is excellent and is expected to increase much faster than average.
